This month's Meet the Planet Newsletter is brought to you by The Earth Island Institute.

Meet The Planet recently went on a trip to Costa Rica. While this country has been bombarded by the North American visitors and entrepreneurs, purchasing land for developments etc. We found some very positive things taking place with conservation and sustainability. Costa Rica hosts a rich biodiversity. An estimated four percent of the world’s species can be found within its borders, a tiny 19,652 square miles. More than 200 mammal species, 214 reptiles, 130 fish, 168 amphibians, 600 birds and over 12,000 different plant species, Costa Rica sure is a biodiversity mecca.

It’s hard to believe that most mainstream cosmetic and personal care products contain at least one hazardous chemical compound, and many more contain far more than just one. There are between 5,000 and 10,000 ingredients being used in everything from lipstick to shampoos and deodorants. You might think that if they're on store shelves, they’re safe to use, but think again.

Meet the Planet is continuing in our commitment to taking our message of positive change for the environment to the people! MTP is now heard weekly throughout the United States on Sirius Satellite Radioís LIME Channel 114. LIME is a new radio and television offering that resonates to the slogan; healthy living with a twist.

LIME says: ìMore than ever, many of us are trying to lead healthier, happier, more responsible, and more fulfilled lives. We want our families, ourselves, and our world to be in balance, and we realize that all these things are somehow connected. We've come to a tipping point. We're overdue for new solutions to the myriad challenges we face in our everyday lives-from rising energy prices to contaminants in our drinking water. As a nation, we're already making better, more informed choices every day, adopting healthier lifestyles and working for a more sustainable world. We're buying organic foods and natural products... considering hybrid cars... seeking energy efficient products for our homes... making deeper spiritual connections. We're reassessing priorities, simplifying, recycling, and exploring everything from Yoga and Pilates to kick boxing classes at our local gym. (Who said healthy couldn't be fun? Not us!) Sure, we might hike or even kayak, but we also stroll and ride bikes through our neighborhoods with our kids. We make time to relax, connect, and most importantly, to have fun. We're concerned, and yet we're optimistic. We know a greener world and healthier life is not just possibleóit's necessary and inevitable. We just need a place to start.î Meet the Planet is proud to be part of LIME. Listen Saturday 5 AM and 12 noon, Sun 3 AM and 5 PM Pacific time. If you donít have Sirius Satellite Radio, you can still listen to our program on-demand on our website.
